The Tour d’Auzay (Gite)
Our eco-friendly accommodation is an old fortified farmhouse located in the heart of the bocage, which we have renovated with ecological and local materials. The environment is simple and refreshing, it contains many hiking trails.
On request, we offer home-made vegetarian meals made from organic and local products.
At the Auzay tower, you will have the opportunity to spend some time in a place away from all agitation. You will take the time to reconnect with a rhythm linked to nature, to move around on foot from the house, to feed yourself from the vegetable garden and the hens eggs, to discover the many paths that run along the hedgerows and rivers of the bocage.
We confirm maps of the paths starting from the house. You will meet the little nuggets scattered without warning in this countryside: small medieval castles occupied by groups who make them places to visit like the castle of Sanzay or Ebaupinay, charming villages like Argenton les Vallées perched on its promontory and the ruins of the castle of Philippe de Commynes, famous historian and trusted man of Louis 11, you will also meet small chapels in the open field, all along paths sheltering a rich biodiversity.
You can access to Bressuire or Thouars by bike or by car. These cities are also perched on their promontories and have a rich built heritage that bears witness to the opulence of the region in different periods since medieval times.
A little further on, by taking your car, you can visit the contemporary art centre of the château de Oiron, the Oriental Park of Maulévrier: the largest oriental garden in France, the ‘Bioparc’ zoo with its impressive natural setting, but also the troglodytes at Doué La Fontaine.
Finally, for a longer excursion, you can reach the Puy du Fou in Vendée, the banks of the Loire in Saumur or even the Futuroscope.
