Jomala church - S:t Olofs

Jomala church is generally considered to be one of the earliest stone churches in Finland. The age of the west tower, possibly later added to the nave, has been established by various scientific methods to around 1283. The church underwent a radical rebuilding in the 1830s when the original chancel was torn down. The final destruction of the vaults of the nave together with the triumphal arch meant the definitive end to invaluable early Gothic wall paintings and stained glass.
