Byrundan 2 km – village trail in Finland’s smallest municipality

The homesteads of the village are located in the same area as in the early Middle Ages. In those days the dwellings were built on the shore of the strait that passed through the present day Sottungalandet. Due to the post glacial rebound the strait has disappeared and the farmsteads are now located in two villages; the southern Södra Byn and the northern Norra Byn.

The fields and pastures contribute to an open landscape. The homesteads carry names such as Nybondas, Olas Södergård and Jakas Västergård. Several homesteads have preserved their old farm buildings and lush gardens with big trees such as ash, maple and oak. In the 1800s, there were about ten windmills in the village, but today there is only one left. The homestead museum is housed in an old school from 1903. Next door is the old vicarage from 1899. The trail also passes by the midsummer pole.

Enjoy nature! Take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footsteps.
